The emergence of biosimilars has the potential to significantly impact the biopharmaceutical industry on a global basis. In order to assess the influence of biosimilars on the biopharmaceutical manufacturing capacity landscape, we analyzed biomanufacturing data in BPTC’s proprietary bioTRAK® database to evaluate the current biopharmaceutical landscape and to attempt to estimate the impact of future demand from biosimilars. Additionally, trends in the approaches that biosimilars firms are using to develop and manufacture their products will be explored, including how these trends may impact the geographical diversification of the biomanufacturing footprint.
